Visiting Tuscany...

A journey through the hidden treasures of a land rich of art, history and traditions

Planning your trip to Tuscany it is important to dedicate time to understand this country. Before you leave make a list of all places you want to go to and balance the day you want to spend in each one. It’s hard to say one week is enough…2 weeks are enough…it depends on your wishes and your interests.

If you plan to see just the big towns such as Pisa, Florence and Siena, you will miss for sure the best part of it!
Tuscany is made of small villages, sweet rolling hills, unspoilt forests, food festivals and lively people. Look for this in your holiday and you will make the best of it!

Your Hotel in a strategic Position....
If you have rent a car and wish to see as much as you can of Tuscany, you definitively need a Hotel placed in a strategic position. Borgo Pretale is 20 minutes driving far from Siena and about 1 hour away from Val d'Orcia and Chianti; 35 minutes from San Gimignano and le Crete and 1 hour and 1/2 from Montalcino and Volterra

SIENA AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

Siena is the unique town with a well preserved medieval setting. The Palio Horse Race, which takes place twice a year on July 2nd and August 16th in the Campo Square, is the most important rapresentation of its traditions. All Senese people are involved in its organisation and the days before the race are really exiting!Interesting place to see: The Duomo, La Scala Hospital & Museum, Town Hall Museum and San Domenico Church. Hanging around taking pictures of the typical medieval architecture is a good fun...and don't forget a drink in the Campo square "a Must for all Senese People".

Don’t spend more than one day if you rather see the countryside because there is too much to see!
Driving around the countryside of Val d’Orcia, le Crete and Montalcino wineyards….is absolutely stunning. Take a whole day visiting that area and don't forget your camera! The landscape driving down to the Cassia 2 Road is spectacular. Buonconvento, Montalcino, San Antimo, Pienza, San Quirico and Bagno Vignoni are all nice places to see and close one to each other mostly on the same road. Interesting to do: Tasting wine in Montalcino: Brunello wine and Rosso di Montalcino and tasting Pecorino cheese in Pienza.

The Chianti is so famous for the wine, the castles and the countryside. Driving around till lunch time is enough to see most of it. You might stop in a typical osteria for a pasta and a glass of good Chianti! Coming back nice to stop in San Gimignano called the Medieval Manhattan with high towers. Monteriggioni is also very nice and famous for its forteress!

The Val di Merse is a wild area south of Siena ideal for walking/trekking and m/biking. Along the river Merse there are lots of tiny villages...little pearls of Tuscany not well know but not less precious!

San Galgano Abbey is worth a visit! A peculiar church without the roof and a ancient legend about the "Sword in a stone", make this place so famous!
